This story is slightly dated but it is worth pointing out that Samsung's LNT4661F 1080p 46 inch is the best selling TV right now.(at least in 2008). Not only is it fairly affordable at US $1,644 but it comes with a huge screen 46 in and a host of cool features.

It 's High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) enables simple and easy connection of digital devices. That means I can connect my TV with various appliances, such as a home theater, DVDP, Game console, Blu Ray, and even a Digicam.It also has USB 2.0 port to connect with your USB gadgets. Maybe not everybody will use all these features but it sure is nice to have. Plus as far as I'm concerned this hi tech TV is getting rave reviews for its sound and picture quality.

Pay for your TV entertainment via the Sony TV - only in Japan

Now you can easily pay for Pay-per-view entertainment items with your Sony TV's new electronic money card reader. Ofcourse you need to be based in Japan for that. That's right. Sony's new Bravia TV series  has the world's first remote controller with a built in smart card reader, which the user can pay for video on demand services, provided through the Internet, with a pre-paid or credit smart card.

 

According to a company statement released recently, Sony's Bravia W5 and F5 series will be equipped with electronic money card readers for pay-per-viewing via an Internet link. As many of us know, electronic money is already widely used in Japan, such as through credits held in mobile telephone "wallets" or on top-up commuter passes. And this new stuff is probably the icing on the cake. While we outside of Japan have to be satisfied with old fashioned credit cards or paper money payments.

Sony's futuristic Organic TV

Of the numerous symbols from Japan, Sony is arguably the most known brand in the world. And they have indeed kept up to that name. Sony has developed a sexy new emerging TV technology called the OLED or organic light emitting diode TV. It is small. It can fit into your hand. And it is sexy. This is an amazing new technology that will enable extremely thin TV's with a contrast ratio that is about 100 times greater than the best consumer LCD's or Plasma TV.

Sony launched their emerging technology at the CES last year. The video here showcases in details the fascinating experience of the organic TV that could within a few year land in shelves across Japan and the world.

Laser and Plasma TV - the future is already here

Mitsubishi, the Japanese electronics company has brought us closer to the future of television displays with their advanced Laser TV. This is a 65 inch version already on sale for about $7000, that, Mitsubishi claims, offers a contrast ratio and colors spectrum  double that of current LCD and Plasma TV's. The Laser TV is not only capable of delivering the ultimate picture quality but is also capable of delivering a true 3D experience. Its path-breaking technology ensures that its color range is brilliant and brightness the best of all TVs out there.

At $7000, I guess I will have to wait for atleast 3-4 yrs before I can even think of purchasing it. Right now though I'm sticking with a within-budget Plasma or LCD TV. Plasma TVs ofcourse, have been in the market for quite some time but you can bet your socks that there are always something new and spectacular models on the way. Lo and behold,  we now have the jaw-dropping 150 inch Plasma TV from Panasonic.

Launched at the Display 2008 Expo in Tokyo, the plasma panel has a resolution of 4,096 × 2,160 and makes use of the newly developed Neo PDP technology creating a brightness level that is twice as high as current plasma panels. Woah! No word on the pricing yet,tough it is safe to assume that it is not going to be anything short of $100,000. Are people going to shell out so much especially given the economic scenario ? Only time will tell. But something tells me that nothing affects the really affluent people. Rain or shine, they all want their Plasma TVs :-)

Pioneer has also come up with their high-end new Plasma TV launch in Japan,Europe, US and Australia called the Kuro in white and beige colour. All limited edition. All exclusive. For some mere mortals like us, lets us just drool on the images.

Virtua Model and Green Panasonic at CES 2009

At the recently concluded CES 2009 in Las Vegas, being green is not only environment and business friendly, it is also cool and hip.The Japanese Panasonic giant has surely upped its ante by going green and displaying their latest product advancements in energy efficiency.

Below is the highly tempting and expensive ultra thin Plasma TV, one of their high profile launches. How about one of these babies in your living room !

Hoping to get more info about the VIERA, I looked at the Panasonic homepage and saw a virtua model depicted alongside the VIERA. This is obviously inspired by the Virtua Fighter Model 5 for the Sony Playstation 3. Seems like a new trend for high tech product launches. It is certainly a WOW factor.
