The Japanese ingenuity impresses me in strange and unusual ways. Japan is a rainy country and there are a LOT of umbrellas out there.
And, well, umbrellas get wet;-) and it can get messy when you need to carry them into malls or restaurants. So what do you do. You just do not carry them all the way in and make the floors wet and slushy like in other countries. In Japan, do what the Japanese do. Use the umbrella lockers. There are many varieties out there like this one here in front of a fancy restaurant.
And these can be seen in many office and hotel buildings.
Very cute, eh. Oh, for a rainy day. How is it like in your country ?

These gadgets are really awesome and practical, I hope they export these in the US. I'm not a fan of rainy weather unlike my guildmate in WoW who takes advantage of the weather to slack around.

Can you tell us where the location of the first photo is? Looks like a big crossing in Tokyo, e.g. Shibuya or Shinjuku.
